Budapest: The Jewish Synagogue and Museum

The Jewish Synagogue in Budapest is the second largest in the world. It was a place where Jewish people were gathered before being transferred to concentration camps in World War II and many people who died in the Jewish ghetto are buried in a cemetery next to the synagogue.

What is there to say? It is just gorgeous.

I loved sitting inside and looking up. It made me think of the verse in Isaiah 56:7, "For mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people....."

Outside next to the cemetery is a memorial garden. This is the top of the memorial which represents a willow tree.

I have known about the Jewish holocaust all my life but somehow living in Eastern Europe makes it much more real to me. It's important to take the time to visit these places and reflect on how precious life is and how we should be treating each other while we share our time on earth.
